Getting to Edinburgh airport
Geographically, Edinburgh airport is in an enviable position in Central Scotland. It is within easy access of Fife, Tayside and Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh, the Borders, Central and Western Scotland.
Because of it's great transport links, even travellers from the East of Glasgow come to Edinburgh (rather than the nearby Glasgow airport), because of the congestion problems at Glasgow airport. The recently completed Ratho bypass at Edinburgh Airport has also cut down journey times as the 'bottleneck' at the Newbridge roundabout has also been eradicated.
Future road access plans include a new BAA-funded road from the Gogarburn Roundabout linking the A8/ M8 / A720 national highways directly to the airport, but until this happens, this is how you get to the airport:
By Car:
Edinburgh airport is located 20 km (12 miles) west of Edinburgh, just off the A8 main road which runs between Glasgow and Edinburgh. The well-signed airport access road turns north off the A8 between the Gogar and Newbridge roundabouts.
If approaching from the Edinburgh side join the A8 from the city bypass and proceed towards Glasgow. From the North and West you should join the A8 at the Newbridge roundabout and proceed towards Edinburgh.

For excellent turn by turn directions from your door to the entrance of the airport try the free route planner provided by the AA. If you enter your journey start time, it will also calculate your journey time, taking into account the traffic conditions / volume at the time that you will travel. By bus or coach:
The airport is linked to a number of Scottish and English cities by National Express long-distance coach services. Timetables are available from the onward travel desk in the UK arrivals hall and the information desk in the international arrivals area.
There is an express bus service to Edinburgh city centre (No. 100 operated by Lothian Buses at www.flybybus.com or call + 44 (0)131 555 6363) which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Tickets costs is £3.00 single or £5.00 return and the journey takes approximately 25 minutes. The bus terminates at Waverley Bridge, near to the main railway station and bus station and is just off the city's main street, Princes Street. The bus runs every 10 minutes at peak times through the day and every 30 minutes at night.
Bus stops for the airport are at stand 18 on the terminal forecourt road outside the domestic arrivals hall.
Holidayextras offer coach plus airport hotel packages.
By train:
Although the main Edinburgh - Aberdeen Railway line runs along the northern perimeter of the airport and the main Edinburgh - Glasgow Railway line also runs within 1/2 mile of the airport, there is no direct rail link to Edinburgh City Centre.
Edinburgh's main railway station (Waverley) is in the city centre and can be reached by taxi or bus (see the express bus service in the 'bus and coach' section).
From Edinburgh Waverley there are services to Glasgow and a variety of other destinations in Scotland and England, including fast trains to London. Many of the train services also stop at Edinburgh Haymarket station, which is on the main bus route between the airport and city centre.
