edinburgh royal botanic gardens
Edinburgh Royal Botanic Gardens are 1.5 miles north of the city centre. The 31 hectares form a wonderful haven of tranquility within the city, as well as being home to a world-renowned centre of botanical science.
The gardens are early nineteenth century with a good layout, and are on a fantastic site with panoramic views of the Edinburgh skyline. The arboretum and rock garden were made after the appointment of Sir Isaac Bayley Balfour as Regius Keeper in 1888.
