edinburgh castle
Edinburgh Castle sits atop an extinct volcano, dominating the city that surrounds it. This world-class heritage site is not only a fantastic glimpse of medieval Scotland, but also a place to get some wonderful view of the city itself.
Within this historic castle there are museums and exhibits. The highlights include 500 year old cannon Mons Meg, St Margaret's Chapel and the Crown Jewels and Stone of Destiny.
Also close to the castle, a stroll down to the other end of the Royal Mile, is the Palace of Holyrood House. This is the official Scottish residence of the British Royal Family. And near Holyrood House is the neighboring Scottish Parliament building.
