Details of 2008 upgrade works announced

BAA has announced details of multi-million-pound package of upgrade and imporvement works planned for Edinburgh Airport in 2008. This will include a £16m project to resurface the airport's main runway, which will begin in March, involve nighttime work (and a reruoting of night flights) and last for about 8 months.
Additional X-ray machines with the latest technology will be installed to help meet a target of getting 95% of passengers through security search in under 5 minutes. Passengers will also begin to see the benefits of a £29m project to double the size of the departure lounge, which is due to get under way towards the end of the year, will include a new security area, additional seating and extra shop and restaurants.
Three new aircraft stands will be constructed at a cost of £13m, to cope with extra planes as the number of new international routes at the airport continues to rise. In addition developments will include an £8m consolidated car rental centre and upgraded and modernised toilet facilities throughout the terminal.
