Union recognition for Flyglobespan cabin crew
30.05.08
Unite has gained recognition for more than 200 cabin crew employees at the Edinburgh based, budget airline Flyglobespan, the union announced today. Brian Boyd, national officer for Unite, described the deal as a 'breakthrough'.
The union has waged a long campaign for recognition at Flyglobespan, which has been resisted by the company for more than a year, the union said. Unite submitted an application to the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) in December 2007 for recognition for collective bargaining at Flyglobespan. The CAC yesterday said that the union should be recognised by the employer to conduct collective bargaining on behalf of all UK based permanent cabin crew including cabin crew at the following airports: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Durham Tees Valley, Exeter, Gatwick, Robin Hood, Newcastle, Birmingham and Belfast.
