Latest phase of airport upgrade to open today

A £40m expansion of Edinburgh Airport will be officially opened today. The departure lounge and security hall will support 150 retail jobs and is part of a 10-year phased upgrade plan for the airport that will allow the it to expand from 9m passengers a year to an expected 13m by 2013.
The final part of the upgrade is due for completion next spring, but it will open in phases during 2010. It is aimed at developing the airport into ‘one of the most modern gateways in Europe’. A spokesman said Edinburgh was the only UK airport to grow last year and the expansion in facilities would help it meet forecasted growth.
