Flyglobespan denies safety charges

Edinburgh-based budget airline Flyglobespan has slammed a newspaper report accusing it of ‘endangering passenger safety’ and said it has yet to receive a summons from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Travel Weekly reports. A Flyglobespan spokesman said the charges involve ‘lesser technical matters’ and that it continues to operate as normal with CAA approval.
The Times reported on Sunday that Flyglobespan faces 3 charges, having allegedly flown an aircraft between Liverpool and New York when both its engine pressure gauges were broken and then failed to file a safety report with the CAA. It said that each of the charges carries the possible penalty of an unlimited fine.
However, an airline spokesman told Travel Weekly: ‘We have not seen all the CAA documentation and, until we have fully studied it, we cannot comment in detail. However, we will vigorously contest any allegations we deem to be unjustified.’
He confirmed two senior managers have been replaced since the incident last October that led the CAA to suspend the carrier's ETOPS licence - which allows operation of two-engine aircraft over large expanses of water.
