Airport back troops charity drive
27.10.08
Passengers, cabin crew and staff at Edinburgh Airport donated more than £1500 and dozens of parcels for British troops deployed abroad, as part of a charity drive organised by an airport security officer and ex-soldier, the Evening News reports.
The 3 day collection was organised by a former serviceman, BAA security officer John Robertson. A total of £1609 was collected for Parcels4Troops, a charity that has been sending parcels to troops in Iraq since the first Gulf War and also ships goods to Afghanistan.
In addition to the cash donations, dozens of items for inclusion in packages were collected at the airport's terminal, including more than 100 boxes of noodles and 100 toothbrushes. BAA, the operator of Edinburgh Airport, has also contributed £500 towards the collection.
