Hotel offers free rooms to stranded passengers
23.04.10
An Edinburgh hotel is offering up to 100 free rooms to passengers stranded in the city after the flight ban caused by the ash cloud from the Icelandic Volcano. Ten Hill Place, owned by the Royal College of Surgeons, told the BBC the rooms were available to passengers until 30 April.
The hotel sent two members of staff out to the airport this week to spread the word. They had a dozen stranded passengers on Wednesday night and were expecting more yesterday. Hotel director Scott Mitchell said: 'We want to help those in a difficult situation. Passengers must have a valid airline ticket to qualify.'
‘We are aware of the room shortage at airport hotels for those who cannot reach their destination. Rather than profiteering from this situation we would like to help those who are stranded in our beautiful city. We actually found four passengers yesterday who had slept at the airport for the previous two nights. They are with us for another two nights.'
