Airport demonstrators face trial
23.01.08
The 10 protestors arrested during a demonstration at Edinburgh Airport on Monday have been charged with a breach of the peace. As previously reported, they were part of a group of 20 protestors from direct action group Plane Stupid who held a demonstration at private jet firm Greer Aviation on Monday. Some climbed on to the roof of a company building, whilst others chained themselves to the entrance.
Michael Dunn, 19, Melanie Evans, 24, Daniel Glass, 24, Katie Hastings, 23, Matthew Megarry, 22, appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. Oliver Munnion, 22, Richard Shore, 23, Sean Watson, 20, David Whitecross, 23, and Alistair White, 19, also appeared at the court. All denied the charges and will stand trial in May and June.
It is alleged Ms Evans, Ms Hastings, Mr Dunn, Mr Munnion, Mr Watson and Mr White climbed on the roof and displayed an anti-climate change banner at Greer Aviation, Eastfield Avenue, Edinburgh Airport. Mr Glass, Mr Megarry, Mr Shore and Mr Whitecross are alleged to have obstructed a security gate into a controlled area of the airport - chaining themselves together - and refused to move.
All 10 were released on bail on the condition that they do not go within 800m of the airport.
