Drop off fee campaign continues

A group representing Scottish travel agents has joined the chorus of opposition to Edinburgh Airport's plans to charge £1 for passengers to be dropped off at the terminal, the Scotsman reports. The news comes as campaigners switch their attention from the airport's outgoing boss, to its new boss set to join in the next two weeks.
The Scottish Passenger Agents Association (SPAA), which represents 80% of Scotland's travel agents, condemned the drop off charge for increasing costs for travellers, adding that it fears other airport charges will follow. SPAA president Brian Potter said he feared the £1 fee would be ‘the tip of an iceberg’ and would spread to the other airports. He told the newspaper: ‘It's simply a way for the airport to make easy money and the public are not happy about it.’
The comments came as Lothians MSP Gavin Brown vowed to lobby Edinburgh Airport’s incoming chief executive about scrapping the new charge. Kevin Brown, currently chief of Aberdeen Airport, is to take over as Managing Director at Edinburgh Airport on 1 August. Aberdeen has decided against introducing the charge, and the MSP is trying to arrange a meeting with the airport's new boss to persuade him to axe the plans at Edinburgh too.
