Man admits gun flight charges

A man who said that he had a gun while on board a flight about to take off from Edinburgh Airport has admitted causing a breach of the peace. Vytauas Gulbinavicius, 25, from Aberdeen, pleaded guilty to putting cabin crew and passengers in a state of fear and alarm at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday.
The incident took place on April 30 on a Flyglobespan flight from Edinburgh to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. The Boeing 737, with 130 passengers on board, was due to leave at 09:50, but was halted on the runway after Mr Gulbinavicius told a member of the cabin crew that he had a gun. It eventually flew out an hour late, minus Mr Gulbinavicius.
Defence agent Elspeth McDougall told Sheriff Fiona Reith QC on Friday that her client has decided to plead guilty to the charge. Sheriff Reith asked for background reports and sentencing was deferred until August 8.
