New taxiway to improve efficiency
21.05.11
Edinburgh Airport has opened a new taxiway that will offer an alternative route for planes between the runway and aircraft stands. It will reduce aircraft taxi times and cut on-stand delays during busy periods.
The taxiway will allow planes to continually move instead of having to hold while waiting for other planes to make up ground or clear the runway. The airport estimates that this will see around 300kg less fuel being burnt by airlines each day during the summer.
David Lister, airside director at the hub, said: We are very happy that that the new taxiway is operational. It will contribute to improving our on time performance as well as reducing our carbon footprint.’
