Edinburgh Airport has announced plans to build a new car rental centre to cope with growing demand for hire cars, the Scotsman reports. The £9.5m new car rental centre will be linked to the main terminal building by a 500-metre covered walkway.
The airport will be the first in the UK to offer a consolidated car rental centre that includes back-up facilities for refuelling, valet and washing. The centre will also house all car rental operators' offices and is expected to be ready by next spring.
Gordon Dewar, managing director of Edinburgh Airport, told the newspaper: ‘By offering more choice and convenience, a more efficient service and through making use of sustainable design techniques, this project makes sense for passengers, business partners and the environment.’
Around 180,000 passengers a year currently hire a car at Edinburgh Airport. However, this figure that is set to rise to around 230,000 by 2010 according to airport projections.
