A man was arrested at Edinburgh Airport yesterday after trying to smuggle £53,000 worth of cannabis resin in to the UK, the Evening News reports. Michael Richter, 53, who currently lives in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, was stopped by UK Border Agency (UKBA) officers after arriving on a flight from Delhi via Paris. A search of his luggage revealed 13 kilos of the drug.
After questioning by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) officers, Mr Richter was charged with the illegal importation of drugs. Colin Fraser, senior detection manger at the UKBA, said: ‘UKBA and HMRC are committed to stamping out drug smuggling in Scotland. HMRC investigations are continuing.’
