A near miss between two planes near Edinburgh Airport has been reported. Witnesses say they saw a large passenger aircraft - possibly a Boeing 737 - pass within a few hundred metres of a smaller twin-engine plane on Monday afternoon, before both came in to land at the airport.
Aviation authorities have confirmed that an investigation is under way. A spokesman for Nats, the air traffic control company, said: ‘An incident near Edinburgh Airport has been reported for investigation. That is all the data we have on it at the moment.’
A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that an incident took place at that time on Monday, but referred inquiries on to air traffic control operators. The UK Airprox Board, which investigates all airspace incidents, also confirmed that they had been contacted about the incident.
