Airport hotel offers haggis amnesty
20.01.09
Passengers flying from Edinburgh Airport are being offered a free meal by an airport hotel as part of a haggis amnesty this weekend. The Hilton Edinburgh Airport is offering passengers the opportunity to swap their uncooked haggis for a traditional Burns Supper of haggis, neeps and tatties with a 'wee dram' of whisky.
Many visitors to Scotland are unaware of the restrictions on taking meat home and could well have their haggis taken off them when they arrive at their home country. However, thanks to the amnesty, they will be able to swap their 'haggis contraband' for a real taste of Scotland at the hotel.
To take advantage of the offer, travellers are being asked to present their airline tickets or proof of travel plus haggis to staff at Hilton Edinburgh Airport's restaurant. The amnesty runs over Friday, Saturday and Sunday and there is a shuttle bus service from the airport to the hotel.
Michael Squire, general manager at the Hilton Edinburgh Airport, said: ‘Haggis is an icon in Scotland, and we want to allow everyone visiting the country to have had the chance to sample the Bard's namesake dish for Burns night.’
