3i to bid for airport

3i, the private equity firm, has joined with other institutional investors to prepare a bid for Edinburgh Airport, according to a number of reports today. 3i’s listed infrastructure division is said to be working with M&G, the Prudential-owned fund manager, and UK pension fund investor the Universities Superannuation Scheme.
BAA announced it would sell Edinburgh Airport in October, with the process due to begin formally in January when it issues a sales prospectus. A number of airport operators and private equity firms are expected to take part in the sales process, if press reports are accurate.
