Traffic warning for this weekend
19.06.08
Passengers travelling to or from Edinburgh Airport this weekend have been warned to allow extra time for the journey as visitors to this year's Royal Highland Show, which starts today (Thursday), will add to the already congested local roads. The annual event will see over 100,000 visitors flock to the Highland Showground, next to the airport, with traffic delays expected on the A8 at Gogar and Newbridge.
Those travelling to Edinburgh Airport are especially being advised to allow extra time for their journey over the show period, which lasts until Sunday. There will be a temporary extension of the 40 mph speed at Gogar and Newbridge.
A police spokesman said: ‘Last year's show passed off without any significant disruption to traffic. We would once again ask for people to be patient and to adhere to the speed restrictions put in place. Motorists are also asked to allow plenty of time for their journey along the A8, and to consider alternative routes where appropriate.’
