Snow closes Edinburgh Airport

Passengers face delays at Edinburgh Airport today, after snow forced the closure of the runway. The runway was closed for about two hours from 11:30, but has since reopened. During the closure 3 inbound flights were diverted to Glasgow and 7 departures were delayed, with further disruption expected this afternoon and evening.
An airport spokesman said: ‘Adverse weather conditions and low temperatures saw falling snow quickly turning to ice. This meant that we were forced to close the main runway at 11:30. However, the runway reopened at 13:10 and the airport is now returning to normal.'
‘There is still the potential for knock on delays during the course of the day, and we would advise passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline.'
