Charity runway race
18.09.09
Almost 50 cars are to descend on the secondary runway at Edinburgh Airport for a 200mph charity race. The 'Race the Runway' event will see owners of Lamborghinis, Porches, Ferraris, Aston Martins and other supercars test out how fast their vehicles can go. The airport will operate as normal during the event.
The race is the brainchild of Edinburgh Airport managing director Gordon Dewar, who is the patron of the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. A total of 48 drivers have bought the £250-a-head race tickets, with the money going to St Columba's Hospice in Edinburgh and the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. Entrants can bring along spectators at £50 per head, but the event - on September 24 - is not open to the public.
