New self service check-in kiosks launched

Edinburgh Airport has introduced new self service check-in kiosks that will help passengers to speed up their journey through check-in. The ten new kiosks have been installed just to the left of the main entrance to the check-in hall in a bid to tackle queues.
British Airways and bmi already have their own dedicated check-in machines at the airport, but the £300,000 terminals installed by BAA will be open to all other airlines operating at the airport. Air France, KLM and Flybe have already signed up to use them, but the airport is hoping to attract dozens of other airlines.
Passengers will have to prove their identity by presenting a passport barcode, credit card, and frequent flyer or transaction number at the machine. They will then go through a series of touch screens before their boarding pass is printed. Those passengers with luggage will then proceed to a fast bag drop, whist those with no bags will head straight for the departure lounge.
Edinburgh is the first airport in Scotland to install the common use self-service machines, which are popular in other large UK airports. David Lister, Edinburgh Airport's customer service director, said: ‘The new kiosks enable us to increase the capacity of our check-in hall. We expect them to prove especially popular with frequent flyers and business travellers, and for those passengers travelling without check-in luggage.’
