New airport hotel planned
17.07.10
A proposal for a 168 bedroom, four-star hotel at Edinburgh Airport has been submitted, the Scotsman reports. There is a shortage of rooms for passengers using the airport, and the new hotel will offer conferencing facilities as well as accommodation, which could boost passenger numbers as people fly in to attend events.
The new airport hotel, planned by Scottish construction company Vinanian Developments, will be situated off the main approach from the A8 Glasgow Road, opposite the Hilton. Architects Young & Gault, who designed the building, said that it will include ‘an exciting new restaurant, leisure facilities and extensive conference facilities, responding to the increasing demand for quality bedrooms and business services close to Edinburgh Airport’.
The hotel will include a series of conferencing venues from ‘intimate syndicate rooms’ to a huge banqueting hall with space for up to 700 people. Vinanian has yet confirmed if it has a hotel brand lined up to operate it.
