Edinburgh continues as Scotland’s favourite airport

Edinburgh Airport was Scotland's busiest airport again last month -as it has been each month since January - thanks to the launch of five new international routes to destinations in Italy, Germany, Cyprus and France.
Figures published by airport operator BAA show the Capital's gateway handled 724,154 passengers in April, down 0.2 percent on a year earlier. In the year to the end of April 9.1 million passengers used Edinburgh Airport – a rise of 4.9 percent on the previous 12-month period.
Glasgow handled 644,200 passengers in April, down 0.6 percent, with 8.7m passengers in the 12 months to the end of April, down 2.2 percent. The slump was blamed on a continuing drop in charter traffic, which plummeted almost 13 percent last month.
Whereas at Edinburgh Airport, five new scheduled services - to Pisa, Bremen, Frankfurt Hahn, Paphos and Nice - which started during the month all performed well according to an its managing director, David Johnston. He said: ‘Edinburgh has never been so well served in terms of air links.'
‘The 5 most recent additions to our route network give passengers greater choice, whether flying on business or leisure. In total, 27 new services will start from Edinburgh Airport this year to a variety of destinations.’
