A Mexican couple who were travelling with 4 children were arrested at Edinburgh Airport after a consignment of cocaine with a street value of £800,000 was found during a luggage search yesterday. 16kg of the drug was seized by police officers following the search carried out by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
The consignment is the largest single recovery of cocaine in the Lothian and Borders Police area. Noe Isaias Romero Muchado, 40, and his wife, Erendidael Rudi Arrendondo Lechuga, 37, made no plea and were remanded in custody when they appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday. Both were accused of being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug. They had flown to Edinburgh from Mexico, via Paris.
