Cargo plane collision
03.02.08
An investigation has been launched after a cargo plane was involved in a collision with a ground support vehicle at Edinburgh Airport on Friday night. The Fokker 27 freight plane, operated by Neptune Airways, collided with a ground power unit at 21:15. No-one was injured, but one person was treated for shock.
The accident happened in the airport's north cargo area, but caused no disruption to flights as other freight aircraft are able to manoeuvre around the damaged plane and debris on to the runway. A spokeswoman for the airport said that there was significant damage to the aircraft’s engine and propeller.
The twin-engined aircraft had been due to travel to Coventry. The BAA spokeswoman said: 'There is an ongoing investigation. The Air Accident Investigation Bureau is also expected to launch an inquiry.'
