Airport urged to use drop off fee to support bus route
01.05.11
Edinburgh Airport is being urged to use profits from its controversial drop-off fee into funding a bus route to make it easier for passengers to reach the hub using public transport, the Evening News reports. More than 1000 people have signed a petition calling on the airport to use the drop off fee income to subsidise a bus service to the airport along the Queensferry Road corridor.
In October last year the airport began charging motorists £1 for dropping off passengers close to the terminal. It says the fee has worked, removing congestion around the hub. But Alex Cole-Hamilton, Liberal Democrat candidate in Edinburgh Central, wants some of the money from the charge to fund a new bus service to the airport, and has stated a petition to show support for the move.
